In recent years, with the global energy-saving and carbon reduction, light-emitting diodes ( LEDs ) have become more and more obvious as commercial applications such as building exterior lighting, decorative lighting, and situational lighting. Since such lighting is often designed according to the appearance of the building and different commercial demands, a cluster of pixels composed of red (R), green (G), and blue (B) LEDs is often used as the lighting unit. It produces a variety of light and shadow changes, and serializes different illuminating body shapes to form LED curtain screens, strip screens, and the like. These lighting structures are widely used in the rental market, stage, and building fields because they have the advantages of not obstructing the line of sight, light structure, and easy assembly and transportation.
However, the current RGB Cluster as a decorative lighting is facing the dilemma of how to balance efficiency and aesthetic design. Because when the appearance of the illuminated building is enlarged and the design complexity of the illuminating body is improved, in order to achieve better lighting effects, it is necessary to match a large number of components such as RGB Cluster and LED driver , which will affect the signal. Transmission speed, and when multiple RGB Clusters are connected in series, how to correctly transmit data is a problem that RGB LEDs must be considered when applied to building lighting.
Transmission technology bottleneck to be broken
At present, the transmission architecture using RGB Cluster serial connection adopts three-wire or four-wire transmission, that is, in addition to the frequency (Clock) and data two signal lines, it is necessary to control the latch (Latch) and/or gray-scale frequency (GCLK). The signal line (Figure 1) is connected to each driver, but the three-wire or four-wire transmission architecture will increase the waterproof wire and interface consumption, and the more interface numbers will lead to a decrease in transmission reliability and stability, not only for long distances. Transmission requirements, but limit the wide application of RGB Cluster pixels. As for single-line transmission, except for the transmission cable cost is relatively small, but the relative disadvantage is that the complicated circuit and circuit cost are required to achieve the required transmission stability, and the transmission frequency is limited within a certain range, the number of serial connections and transmission Distance is also limited. Therefore, for commercial lighting applications, the choice of transmission signal is a series of trade-offs and trade-offs between transmission requirements, transmission distance, cost, wire, space, and reliability (Table 1). How to use less wire under cost control, while taking into account transmission efficiency and quality, is the current RGB LED must be the direction of building lighting.
