DS1972 EPROM emulation mode for protecting data from accidental erasure

DS1972 EPROM emulation mode for protecting data from accidental erasure

The DS1972 is a 1024-bit 1-Wire® EEPROM chip with four pages of 256-bit memory and a rugged iButton® package. The data is first written to an 8-byte scratchpad, which is verified and copied to the EEPROM memory. The device features four memory pages that are independent of each other and can be individually write protected or enter EPROM emulation mode, where all bit states can only change from 1 to 0. The DS1972 communicates over a 1-Wire bus using the standard 1-Wire protocol. Each device has a unique 64-bit ROM serial number that cannot be changed and is factory lithographically written to the chip. In a multi-node 1-Wire network environment, this serial number can be used as the device address.

Key characteristics

1024-bit EEPROM memory, divided into four pages, each page of 256-bit independent memory pages, can be permanently write-protected or enter EPROM emulation mode ("rewrite to 0"). Switching point hysteresis and filtering can optimize noise level IEC 1000-4 -2 4-level ESD protection (±8kV contact discharge, ±15kV air gap discharge mode) -40°C to +85°C temperature range, read and write operations at 2.8V to 5.25V operating voltage. Wire protocol to communicate with the host through a digital signal line at a rate of 15.4 kbps or 125 kbps
