Hull University develops OLED technology to attract IPGroup investment According to OLED-DISPLAY.NET, Steve Kelly, professor of chemistry at the University of Hull, and MaryO'Neill, professor of physics, have developed new materials and more cost-effective technologies to manufacture Organic electroluminescent photodiode (OLED) screens and other components. PolarOLED, which is set up by venture capital firm IPGroup, will sell the new technology.

OLED components can be used for cell phone screens, lighting or television screens. The new materials developed by the University of Hull are more cost-effective to manufacture and differ from other OLED configurations currently under development. Sony and Kodak are currently using Small Molecule technology, while others use InkJet Printing to make small screens. However, these techniques have problems with insufficient resolution on large screen sizes. The materials developed by the University of Hull can be expanded in size, high resolution, and can be fabricated on a variety of surfaces, such as Flexible Plastic. The research results attracted IPGroup investment and established PolarOLED company to combine academic achievement and commercialization benefits. Danny Lynham, IP Group's investment manager, said that OLED components have great potential commercial benefits in the global screen market and are expected to work closely with key strategic partners to attract more investors.
