The Washington Times reported on the 7th that Philips Lighting North America plans to expand its lighting manufacturing facility in Tupelo, Miss., and add 50 positions to its original 450 employees.
The company announced on August 7 that it will invest 2 million US dollars (about 12,216,200 yuan) to expand its LED lighting factory in Tupelo. After the expansion, the plant will be produced using Philips' LED technology developed in San Jose, California.
Iain Logan, head of Philips Lighting Americas, said the luminaires produced by the plant can react automatically according to the surrounding environment.
The Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) provided $1 million in federal community development grants for plant remodeling. MDA spokesperson Tammy Craft said the local government did not provide funding incentives for the expansion.
