It is reported that the two companies ARM Holdings and Sensormotoric Instruments (SMI) intend to publish a demo using VR at GDC next week to show the potential of mobile GPU, eye tracking and focused rendering technology.
ARM Holdings, abbreviated ARM, is the world's leading microelectronics design company. The Cortex mobile processor and Mali GPU come from the company. ARM will work with eye tracking technology company SMI to demonstrate how focused rendering technology provides a high-fidelity VR experience for mobile VR at the GDC conference in San Francisco.
ARM said Mali’s mobile graphics cards achieved 750 million shipments in 2015. Its latest G71 series products can meet the high-end VR requirements on the hardware rendering technology. It has been rumored that the G71 may be used on Samsung's newest smartphone, the Galaxy S8. We may see specific information at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week.
However, at this year's GDC, SMI and ARM will jointly demonstrate focused rendering technology. The technology can optimize the rendering details of the VR scene based on the user's visual focus, release more clock cycles for detail rendering or make the frame rate smoother.
SMI will play the demo in its own booth at GDC next week. Users can use Samsung's Galaxy S7 and Gear VR to learn about SMI, the eye tracking technology. According to the SMI media briefing, the demo will "bring the user into the heart of the smartphone and explore the mysteries - from the chip to the camera to the microphone - from a completely new perspective by a robot. Everyone introduced.â€
Pablo Fraile, ARM's director of mobile computing and ecology, said: "Eye tracking technology will increase the level of definition and allow details to be unrestricted in the VR world. Our SMI mobile eye tracking technology demo can demonstrate the focus rendering technology. How to improve the mobile VR experience without sacrificing frame rate and visual quality."
For VR level eye tracking technology, SMI's pace is very aggressive. Although gaze monitoring data and input methods did not enter the first generation of consumer VR helmets, the industry is expected to be the key to meeting the next generation of VR helmets for higher resolution needs. We were impressed with the demos that SMI had previously shown on the Oculus DK2 and the Samsung Gear VR. The company claims to have delivered 10 eye tracking solutions so far.
