Czech's 2012 PV installation capacity will reach 120MW

After almost no installation of any photovoltaic project in 2 years, the industry predicts that the installed capacity of photovoltaic power in the Czech Republic will reach 100MW to 120MW in 2012. It is said that the roof system will dominate.

According to Jaroslav Dorda, founder of the Solarni Novinky website, the Czech PV market is expected to recover (slightly). Since January 2012, a total of 12,000 new photovoltaic projects have obtained grid-connected permits and were approved for construction.

Allegedly, this increase is in line with the Czech Republic’s three major utility companies CEZ, PRE and E. On's attitude changes are closely related, and it is reported that these three big companies decided to incorporate new small-scale photovoltaic systems into the grid (up to 30kWp installed capacity).

In 2010, Czech power grid operator CEPS terminated all newly-built photovoltaic grids into the grid, which also stagnated the photovoltaic industry, which was once booming in the Czech Republic. In addition, the Czech government implements a 26% traceable PV tax and cuts all supporting policies for ground-based PV projects.

However, Dorda argued that the growth of the latest approved project may be even more important. Although utility companies have achieved good results in photovoltaic projects, he believes there are still problems waiting to be resolved. For example, CEZ and E. On rejects "on some strange grounds" for incorporation, including the danger of the local distribution grid collapsing.

In addition, he believes that CEZ requires all power stations larger than 4.5 kWp to be equipped with three-phase inverters. "However, only the three-phase Piko inverter series from Kostal seems to be able to meet the needs of the current Czech PV market. The company's small inverters are very popular in the Czech market."

In short, Dorda predicts that in 2012, the installed PV capacity in the Czech Republic will reach 100 to 120 MW, compared with 6 MW in 2011. He continued: “Next year, PV subsidy rates will be reduced by approximately 30%, but this also depends on the final decision of the Energy Regulatory Authority, which will formally announce this decision in November 2012. Despite the reduction of PV subsidies, However, this photovoltaic boom in the Czech Republic seems to continue into 2013.
