According to Business Insider's recent report, Microsoft Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Chris Capossela is in the "Windows Weekly" podcast with Paul Thurrott and Mary Joe Foley (Mary). Jo Foley said in a conversation that he felt a little regretful about pushing users to Windows 10 in an "excessively radical way."
In July 2015, Microsoft introduced Windows 10, Windows 7 and Windows 8 users can upgrade for free for one year. Hundreds of millions of users have chosen to accept Microsoft's free upgrades, and more people have not chosen to upgrade for various reasons, but insist on the original operating system. Microsoft's goal is to upgrade 100 million devices to Windows 10. As a result, Windows 7 and Windows 8 users have received pop-up notifications about upgrades. This has plagued many users, and some users have reported that their computers have been upgraded without permission.
Caper Serra believes that overall, Microsoft has done a good job in managing upgrade promotions. He said: "We know that from a security point of view, we want users to run Windows 10. However, finding the right balance, not too radical is what we are pursuing. For many years, I think we are doing it right."
However, he also admitted that Microsoft's approach is somewhat crossed. A few months before the free upgrade deadline, Windows 7 and Windows 8 users received confusing notifications. If you click the red X button on the corner, the upgrade will not be canceled, but will be done in the background through the scheduled task.
Capsella said that after a few hours, Microsoft received feedback and realized that it was a bit too much. Windows users are not satisfied with Microsoft's approach and have begun to file complaints publicly. This has caused damage to Microsoft's reputation.
Caper Serra said: "Of course, we need to spend some time to release this upgrade and change this behavior. These two weeks are very painful. Obviously, we have learned a lot from experience."
