Russian experts have developed high-sensitivity fibers to resist erosion

According to the Russian satellite network reported on August 15, in order to prevent accidents in the nuclear industry, aerospace industry and extractive industries, NUST MISIS experts from the Russian National Research Technology University have introduced technology to manufacture high-precision sensors based on doped optical fibers. The results were published in the journal Laser Physics Letters.

NUST MISIS President Alefina Chernikova said: "NUST MISIS Semiconductor Electronics and Semiconductor Physics Department Visiting Professor Alexander Kyrianov's International Panel of Experts and the Optical Research Center of León, Mexico and Kolkata, India The Institute of Ceramics and Glass collaborates to develop technologies for manufacturing high-precision automatic sensors based on optical fibers."

The fiber is doped with rare earth metals and transition metals - lanthanum, cerium, lanthanum, and silver and silicon nanoparticles.

This fiber is sensitive to temperature changes and is resistant to media erosion, so it can be used to accurately monitor the status of large facilities (pipes, wells, nuclear power plants, bridges).

Due to these characteristics, instruments based on such fiber manufacturing will be used in construction, geological engineering, aerospace, oil and gas industries, and high currents including nuclear power.

Project leader Alexander Kyrianov explained: “The research carried out under the framework of this project aims to manufacture fiber optic sensors using specially developed doped fibers and to conduct comprehensive research and application. This type of fiber can solve the erosion problem when the instrument is in extreme conditions, such as temperature monitoring of the well or radiation dose measurement at the nuclear power plant."
