Apple is in hot pursuit and continues to develop OLED integrated fingerprint identification

iPhone X face recognition is popular, but fingerprint recognition has a chance. According to foreign media reports, Apple continues to develop technology for integrating fingerprint recognition on OLED panels. It seems that it has not given up the screen fingerprint recognition function.

Foreign technology website Patently Apple reported that although iPhone X uses face recognition Face ID technology, Apple has not given up screen fingerprint recognition, and continues to lay out relevant fingerprint identification technology.

According to a recent patent report, Apple developed an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panel that can detect fingerprint recognition technology. Through the integrated design of near-field imaging and photodiodes, it can reduce the work. Consumption, improved touch sensitivity, and enhanced fingerprint recognition capabilities, may be used in the next generation of OLED screen iPhone, iPad or iPod touch products.

Whether Apple's new iPhone will adopt a new generation of fingerprint recognition function next year, or full face recognition function, the market has different views.

Gene Munster, an analyst at Loup Ventures, a foreign venture capital firm, speculated that the new iPhone launched by Apple next fall may use VCSEL arrays.

Appleinsider, a foreign technology website, speculates that if the news is true, the new iPhone will have the TrueDepth camera and face recognition Face ID function next year.

On the other hand, foreign technology website MacRumors has previously quoted analysts speculating that it will not rule out that some new iPhones will adopt a new generation of fingerprint identification technology next year, but two factors need to be considered.

First, continue to observe whether the iPhone ID's face recognition function Face ID can enhance the user experience; secondly, it is necessary to observe whether Apple can respond to the technical problems of optical screen fingerprint recognition.

KGI’s analyst Guo Minghao previously reported that global smartphone brands, only Apple and Samsung, may use a large amount of under-display fingerprint recognition.

From a technical point of view, the report pointed out that the optical screen fingerprint identification technology bottleneck is poor scan-through performance, easy to be affected by ambient light source and screen color, but can solve quality problems through customized OLED panel.
