Los Angeles-based company First Contact Entertainment raised $5 million to make high-end VR games. This funding will help realize the company's ambition: to create extraordinary quality VR games. The story drives content and promises to push image quality, gameplay and storylines to a new level. The main members of the company are from Blizzard, Starwind Studios, Treyarch and Infinity Ward.
“The primary problem facing the VR industry today is the lack of quality and replayable VR content,†said Hess Barber, co-founder and president of First Contact. “First Contact is trying to solve this problem. Innovative VR game concept, including unique game mechanics, DLC and more."
First Contact recently hired two new executives. Former Skybound Interactive executive producer Matt Candler will be the chief revenue officer responsible for the distribution, commercial promotion and strategic cooperation of First Contact. In addition, VRLA co-founder Jessica Ward will become his new community director, supervising the studio's relationship with the VR gaming community.
First Contact's first playable VR content will be released on Steam in 2016. The company has 25 employees and was established earlier this year. Its funding comes from various initial investors and angel investments.
The team stated that they are making a "first-person shooter game set 60 years later. Players will use advanced weapons to protect themselves and experience the joy of VR changing the laws of physics."
