LED lighting is uninterrupted for 24 hours, keeping the room temperature at 22-23 degrees Celsius. Since it is cultivated indoors, there is no need to worry about the troubles caused by germs and insects, so pesticides are not used during the cultivation process. In addition, the moisture and nutrients required for the tea leaves come from automatic sprinklers under the seedbed.
The company's general manager Noguchi began to consider the edible nature of tea and tea roots as a cuisine from about two and a half years ago, and repeatedly tried tea cultivation methods and menus since last April.
Usually, tea can be harvested three times a year. If LED lighting continues for 24 hours, the cultivation speed will be 6 times that of the original, and the tea can be harvested 10 times a year. This cultivation method is not affected by the seasonal changes, and the harvested tea leaves can provide raw materials for making tea dishes throughout the year. In addition, regarding the idea that "the tea seedlings can continue to produce photosynthesis for 24 hours, it is possible to cultivate tea leaves rich in catechins and vitamins", researchers are also collecting data that can prove this idea.
The tea produced by this factory has been reserved for the coffee house operated by the company as a material for tempura and other tea dishes. The company's fifth-generation general manager, Noguchi Futaro, said: "If the new tea cooking program can get everyone's favorite, just fine."
