Lenovo Acquires 100 Million U.S. Dollars in Mobile Technology Patents

March 21 news, Lenovo Group and the patent licensing company Unwired Planet issued a joint statement on Thursday, said Lenovo bought a batch of patent portfolio products from Unwired Planet, the total price of about 100 million US dollars, the transaction will be paid in cash.

It is reported that the patent portfolio purchased by Lenovo includes 21 patents held by Unwired Planet, involving 3G, LTE mobile technology and "other important mobile patents." The transaction is expected to be completed within 30 days.

At the same time, Lenovo will receive a multi-year license from Unwired Planet’s intellectual property portfolio, covering basic fields such as mobile device standard basic patents, installation-enabled patents, and application-level technologies. Unwired Planet's patent portfolio includes 2,500 U.S. and foreign patents that have been approved or pending approval.

Philip Vachon, chairman of Unwired Planet's board of directors, said in this regard, “We are very pleased to be able to reach an agreement with a leading global technology company. We wish the Lenovo Group continued success in the future.”
