LG free upgrade webOS 2.0 system for old smart TV

Before embracing Google TV, LG once bought HPOS with HPE as its own smart TV platform and even launched a smart watch based on the system. We haven't heard much about webOS in recent days, but that doesn't mean that LG has given up on it.

According to foreign media reports, LG has just upgraded its free webOS 2.0 operating system to its own version of a smart TV equipped with webOS 1.0.

In April, LG promised to bring at least a webOS 2.0 system update to its old smart TV last year. Today, the company finally fulfilled its promise.

webOS 2.0 adds four new features, namely "My Channels", "Quick Setting", "Input Picker", and "Live Menu".

The focus of this update seems to be on speed;

・ "My Channel" feature allows users to quickly access their favorite live TV or set-top box channels;

・ “Quick Setup” provides instant access to important settings without having to exit the current viewing interface.

・ "Input selection" detects storage devices and provides quick access to content.

・ “Dynamic Menu” allows users to search for content more quickly.

This round of updates will be launched on September 21. Users who have enabled auto-updated webOS 1.0 can experience this change afterwards. It is worth mentioning that these new features are all free.

This is undoubtedly a big slap in the eyes of Samsung because the latter even charged the users of the Tizen platform smart TV in 2013 and 2014 with the “evolution kit”.
