Wearable product footpod supporting Bluetooth smart wireless technology

Oslo, Norway – July 27, 2015 – Ultra Low Power (ULP) specialist Nordic Semiconductor ASA (OSE: NOD) announced that Scribe Labs, a wearable sports technology company based in San Francisco, California, has Select Nordic's nRF51422 multi-protocol system-on-chip (SoC) to provide runScribe with Bluetooth® Smart (formerly known as Bluetooth low energy) wireless connectivity. runScribe is a wearable product that records the precise movement of the runner's foot, allowing runners to analyze their running characteristics to improve performance.

The waterproof runScribe device weighs only 15g and attaches to the runner's shoes and uses a 9-axis sensor to accurately record foot movements during the gait cycle to calculate impact, step and spin properties, such as roll and roll ,put. runScribe provides a rich data set and can be uploaded to the network dashboard via the runScribe mobile app.

runScribe not only records basic data such as pace and distance, but also provides a range of additional motion metrics, including stride and length, surface contact time, foot strike type, spin drift, impact and braking force, and also calculates its runScore, which The data is based on running strength measurements from all 13 recorded indicators, and amateur runners, professional athletes and coaches can be used to improve performance and minimize damage.

The data is stored on the local runScribefootpod during the run; after running, the data is uploaded to the runScribe app running on the iOS and Android devices of the Bluetooth Smart Ready with the help of the unique multi-protocol support of the Nordic nRF51422 device. The runScribe dashboard allows users to analyze data, compare differences between multiple runs, and track progress and performance.

The nRF51422 is a powerful and highly flexible multi-protocol SoC device for ANT+ and Bluetooth smart ultra-low power wireless applications. The nRF51422 integrates a 32-bit ARM® CortexTM M0 microcontroller, 2.4GHz radio, 256kB/128kB flash and 32kB/16kB RAM on a single chip. According to runmbroke co-founder and CEO TIm Clark, "Bluetooth intelligence is essential to the runScribe experience, which allows us to develop a small and lightweight footpod that users don't even notice when they run. We also learned about "traditional" Bluetooth wireless technology and Wi-Fi, but due to size and power constraints, neither is Bluetooth smart technology.

“We believe that we can help individual athletes and running communities with smarter data. Our vision is to bring advanced sports metrics to athletes and create a database of crowdsourced metrics to help us understand more about the problems that plague the running community. ""

RunScribe is currently shipping to early Kickstarter supporters and a broader tester community, with production expected to ship in late summer 2015.
