Building and improving the infrastructure of NB-loT is the goal of the current urban operation management and the application of key industries.

Huawei yesterday jointly held the “Narrowband Internet of Things Summit Forum” during the 2017 World Internet of Things Expo in Wuxi Municipal Government. Jiang Wangcheng, president of Huawei's Internet of Things solution, said in his speech that the development of the Internet of Things industry requires three key elements: standards, chips, and industrial environment. Through more than a year of incubation, the three elements of the NB-IoT industry have matured and are gradually moving towards a commercial scale, that is, the first year of commercial use.

In this forum, Huawei teamed up with the three major operators to invite the China Information and Communication Research Institute, the NB-IoT Industry Alliance, the Mobile Internet of Things Industry Alliance and other industry organizations and institutions, as well as the industrial chain. Vendors and others attended to discuss topics such as narrowband Internet of Things (NB-loT) network deployment, commercial practices and ecological construction.

Wen Ku, Director of the Information and Communication Development Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology attaches great importance to the industrial development of NB-loT. In the development plan of the information and communication industry (the five-year plan for 2016-2020), it is clearly stated that the construction and improvement of the infrastructure of NB-loT is the goal of the current urban operation management and the application of key industries. He pointed out that it is necessary to jointly promote the development of NB-loT technology and applications from four aspects: adhering to innovation and leading development, accelerating infrastructure construction progress, strengthening multi-party cooperation and ensuring safe and standardized development. Especially in the simplification and unification of the module interface, we must speed up the pace to reduce costs and thresholds for more massive applications.

Jiang Wangcheng, president of Huawei's Internet of Things solution, pointed out that the booming development of the Internet of Things industry requires three key elements: standards, chips, and industrial environment. Through more than a year of incubation, these three elements have matured and are gradually moving towards the scale of commercial use, that is, the first year of commercial use.

In terms of standards, the members of the NB-loT China Alliance have expanded to more than 1,500 members since its establishment last year. NB-loT technology can make the Internet of Things go out of fragmentation; in terms of chips and modules, there are already five chips. There are already more than seven groups in the industry; in terms of industrial environment, from the global perspective, more than 30 networks and more than 30 networks will be launched commercially by the end of this year. From the domestic point of view, the application of water meters, parking, street lights and other cities has produced a large number of equipment connections.

Jiang Wangcheng said that Huawei's goal is to extend the pipeline to the upstream platform and downstream chips from both ends. In the application of various industries, Huawei focuses on platform support, data management, and partners to promote the scale of commercial use of the Internet of Things.

In addition, Jiang Ganglin, Director of Huawei's Integration and Cooperation Department, introduced Huawei's OceanConnect IoT platform ecosystem, including the online developer community and offline open labs, marketing support and business cooperation. Finally, Jiang Ganglin and the operator and partners jointly released Huawei IoT Ecological Salon China. He said that Huawei hopes to use the series of salon activities to reach out to cities across the country and seek more partners to join Huawei's IoT ecosystem. At present, Huawei's Eco Salon China has traveled through Hangzhou and Fuzhou, and will continue to land in cities such as Nanjing, Guangzhou, Beijing and Wuhan.
