The operation mode of the AGV is simply to automatically or manually load the goods, then automatically drive or haul the cargo trolley to the designated location according to the set route, and then load or unload the goods automatically or manually. In addition to charging time and necessary maintenance procedures, the AGV can be used and operated 24 hours a day, which is a great benefit for manufacturers in saving labor costs.
In addition to robots that can replace 3D (Dirty, Dangerous, Difficult) work, the AGV also replaces human handling of heavy handling and single boring repetitive work in the factory. It is an indispensable running vehicle for today's factories. Usually the industry will classify the way the AGV navigates during driving.
The common types can be roughly distinguished from whether or not physical paths need to be set on the ground. For example, the electromagnetic guidance of the metal wires embedded in the driving path is realized by the identification of the guiding frequency of the metal wires, and the advantage is that The cost is low and reliable, but the path is difficult to change and has greater limitations.
Another kind of magnetic stripe is very similar to the magnetic strip guide that lays the magnetic strip track on the road surface and realizes navigation through the magnetic induction signal. The magnetic strip guide is easier to change or expand the path than the electromagnetic guide, and the laying is simple, but the disadvantage is that it is easily interfered by the metal material in the surrounding environment, and the magnetic strip is susceptible to mechanical damage. Electromagnetic guidance and magnetic strip guiding are currently the most used in the market, and the market share is nearly 40%. It is a commonly used AGV guiding type in the industry.
Inertial navigation is a navigation method in which the market share is second to electromagnetic and magnetic strip. It is to install a gyroscope on the AGV, and install a status block on the ground to realize navigation through the calculation of the deviation signal. Although it has ground engineering requirements, it has less workload than wired guidance and ground handling, and its path flexibility is strong. However, the disadvantage is that the cost is high, and the guiding precision is closely related to the manufacturing precision of the gyroscope itself.
Another physical path is optical guidance. This method is similar to a magnetic strip track, except that the magnetic strip is replaced by a paint or ribbon, and the guide is processed by processing the image signal of the ribbon taken by the camera. Although this method is flexible and easy to set up, the ribbon is easily contaminated and subject to mechanical wear, and the environmental requirements are too high, resulting in poor reliability and accuracy.
Because the physical path is often subject to mechanical wear, the operator can choose AGV guidance for non-physical paths without much cost considerations. For example, the principle of laser guidance is to install a laser scanner on the AGV and install a laser positioning marker on the wall or pillar of the running path. After the laser beam is emitted by the scanner, the receiving is performed. The current position and direction of motion of the AGV can be calculated by the laser beam reflected from the positioning mark.
Although laser guidance does not require other ground facilities and the path is more flexible, the manufacturing cost is higher and the environmental requirements are still quite demanding. According to the same guiding principle, the laser scanner on the AGV can also be replaced with an infrared emitter or an ultrasonic transmitter, and the guiding mode is changed into infrared guiding or ultrasonic guiding.
