LG Digital TV uses Broadcom Bluetooth technology to connect directly to wireless devices
Broadcom recently announced that LG Electronics (LGE) has integrated its Bluetooth technology into new digital TVs that are now shipping. These new LGE TVs allow consumers to connect devices such as stereo wireless headphones and mobile phones directly from the TV.
Through Broadcom Bluetooth technology to connect mobile phones and headsets to the TV, LGE uses the existing Bluetooth device ecosystem to bring consumers advanced voice streaming and digital media sharing capabilities. Broadcom technology is also well-positioned for future mobile phone applications. For example, it can be used as a TV remote control or QWERTY keyboard input device, used in TV-based widgets and e-commerce applications.
In addition, Broadcom Bluetooth technology can also use the new LGE TV as a wireless base for MP3 mobile phones and portable media players (PMP) to play music and other voices through the TV speaker system. It also provides "picture transmission" capability, allowing users to wirelessly transfer digital photos and other image files from mobile phones with Bluetooth and camera functions to LGE TV for viewing and sharing.
Broadcom said that Bluetooth connection allows consumers to make full use of general digital TV functions, such as high file speaker system and large digital display function, to enjoy media content on MP3 players and mobile phones (with digital photo function), while allowing consumers Wirelessly enjoy high-quality audio streaming for exclusive individuals. Broadcom estimates that the overall market size of embedded Bluetooth solutions will exceed 928 million units by 2012.
