MacBook dismantling: full of roses in the city

After a lapse of one year, Apple finally updated the 12-inch MacBook released last year. Is there a difference between the 2016 MacBook and the 2015 model, in addition to the new rose gold color scheme? At present, iFixit, a well-known foreign dismantling organization, has dismantled this new product. Let's take a look at it.

1. Basic configuration

12" IPS Retina screen with 2304 x 1440 resolution (ppi:226)

1.1GHz dual-core Intel Core m3 processor (up to configurable to 1.3GHz dual-core Intel Core m7)

8GB of memory (1866 MHz LPDDR3)

256 or 512GB PCle flash

Intel HD Graphics 515

802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi wireless network connection and Bluetooth 4.0

Single USB-C interface and 3.5mm headphone jack

2. If it wasn't for the addition of rose gold this year, it would be very difficult to distinguish between the 2016 model and the 2015 MacBook.

From the back you can see the model number of the new MacBook is A1534.

The only difference may be that the updated EMC number is 2991 and last year was 2746.

3. After opening, you can find that the rose gold is not only on the surface, but also inside the city.

Before further disassembly, let's take a look at the chip that drives the touchpad.

Orange: STMicroelectronics 32F103 ARM Cortex-M3 Microcontroller

Yellow: International Rectifier IRFH3702 Single N-Channel HEXFET Power MOSFET

4. What is this? The nasty tri-wing screw that appeared last year was gone, and now it is replaced by Phillips, which is easier to handle.

Fortunately, the other internal screws are still standard Phillips and Torx (Plum).

However, another "surprise" is the screws at the hinges. These plum-shaped screw heads are attached to a substance that is not so easy to handle when you rotate the screws.

5. Next to the other side of the MacBook, it seems that the USB-C hardware has changed. The cable is now secured to the USB board by laminated plastic and the two components are compressed onto a single unit.

In addition, the new silicone is moved from the cable to the USB board. This is a comparison of the new USB-C (top) and the 2015 USB-C (bottom).

Therefore, the new USB-C hardware is not compatible with the 2015 MacBook.

6. Battery

The battery shape is the same as 100% of the 2015 model.

Battery capacity has increased from 7.55V, 39.71Wh last year to 7.56V, 41.41Wh, and it is reported that it can play 11 hours of iTunes movies.

iFixit guesses that the increase in battery capacity is due to improvements in battery technology (although it is also possible that the battery size has increased a little bit)

Unfortunately, the adhesive is still an annoying thing.

Finally, the new MacBook battery is compatible with last year's MacBook.

7. Motherboard

Red: Intel SR2EN Core m3-6Y30 processor (4M cache, up to 2.20GHz)

Orange: Toshiba TH58TFT0DFKLAVF 128GB MLC flash memory (128GB on the back, for a total of 256GB)

Yellow: Magnesium MT41K256M16LY-107 4GB DDR3L SDRAM

Green: Universal Scientific Industrial 339S0250 Wi-Fi Module

Light blue: Broadcom BCM15700A2

Dark Blue: National Semiconductor 48B1-11

Purple: F4432ACPE-GD-F

8 back of the motherboard

Red: Toshiba TH58TFT0DFKLAVF 128GB MLC Flash

Orange: Samsung K3QF4F4 4GB LPDDR3 RAM (plus 4GB on the front of the motherboard, a total of 8GB)

Yellow: Apple 338S00066 (appears to be an updated version of the 2015 338S00055 SSD controller)

Green: Texas Instruments / Stellaris LM4FS1EH SMC Controller

Light blue: SMSC 1704-2 temperature sensor

Dark blue: Texas Instruments SN650839

Purple: Texas Instruments TPS51980A

9.

Orange: Intersil 95828

10.

2016 MacBook maintainable score: 1 point (the lower the score, the harder it is to fix)

The annoying tri-wing screw was gone and replaced with a standard Phillips screw.

The processor, RAM, and flash memory are still soldered to the motherboard.

Battery assembly is still very careful, and pay attention to the adhesive.

The Retina display has no protective glass and can be inexpensive if it needs to be replaced.
