Since the launch of Blocks six months ago, we have seen the outstanding work that novices and professionals bring to us. At the same time, the community provided a lot of feedback on how to improve the experience. So in today's free online Steam and OculusStore updates, Blocks adds a host of new features that make it even more powerful and easier to use. Below I will take a look at the new version of Google Blocks.
1, environmental optionsModeling in the desert makes you see the 3D mirage? Don't worry, you can now choose from four modeling environments. For the long creative process, Google added a nightly version of the current environment for users who think the desert is too bright. You will also find the usual white and black options. So when you create a night sky surprise in the night environment, please pay attention to look up. In addition, Blocks can remember the environment used in the last session and will automatically select this option by default the next time.
2, optimized adsorption function (Snapping)The ability to absorb objects, edges and vertices can help your work become more precise. However, existing adsorption behaviors are often unpredictable or difficult to control. To ensure that every adsorption behavior meets your expectations, Google has improved the adsorption algorithm and brought you a whole new user experience.
When you are trying to snap two objects, be sure to press the Select Trigger key halfway to view the auxiliary guides. If the trigger button is fully pressed, the guide line will preview where the object is snapped. This line of knowledge can position the snap gesture to the side you want before fully pressing the trigger button.
You can also absorb the mesh more easily. Let's say you want to attract the ring around the cylinder. You can press the trigger button halfway while placing the ring. The guide line will guide you to place a grid around other meshes. Pressing the trigger button all the way will snap the ring into position.
3. The most frequently requested feedback function in the communityNow, at the bottom of the Blocks menu you will see a beaker icon that gives you access to the prototype version that most needs the feature:
Non-coplanar mode: I believe many people have noticed that when reshaping the mesh, Blocks will create coplanar faces. This can help in many situations, but in other cases it produces irrelevant triangles, making further operations such as perfect subdivision difficult. Now you can enable non-coplanar faces to avoid creating extra triangles.
Loopsubdivide: Segmentation can be a very powerful tool. If you can cut a ring across the grid, this tool will become even more powerful. With ring segmentation enabled, you can see the perfect subdivision ring around the object by simply pressing the trigger button while subdividing.
Edge, Face and Vertex Removal: Many people require the ability to delete a single edge, face or vertex. Once this feature is enabled, you can do this with the Eraser tool. Blocks will "fold" the mesh based on the edges, faces or vertices you delete.
World Space Grid: Another option to help with accuracy is to enable the World Space Grid. This feature will display a grid of each side of the world space. The grid unit is equivalent to the actual world space grid unit, so you can accurately measure and place objects along the grid.
Volume Insertion Ruler: In the absence of relative scale perception, accurate modeling will be difficult in Blocks. This experimental feature allows you to launch the ruler when you insert the grid. As you insert the object, you will see the relative measurements (in meters) on each axis, so you can accurately measure the relative value of each object relative to other objects.
Extend grid wireframes: As you reshape the grid, you'll see useful wireframes around the portion of the mesh being reshaped. Many people are asking for the ability to open wireframes for a complete grid, and now creators will be able to do so.
Step by step to undo: Checking multiple objects can be frustrating if you select the wrong object during the selection process. To this end, Blocks now allows you to undo steps and redo steps in the check. You can use the Undo and Redo buttons on the non-dominant controller to undo or redo the selection of objects in turn. Please continue to press the trigger button when undoing or redoing, so that you can keep the check when you correct the error.
It should be noted that all of the above are experimental features, so you may have certain problems or bugs when you use them. The new version of Blocks is now available on Steam and OculusHome for free updates.
